There are many studies in which college student ratings have been correlated with student achievement. These have been summarized in a metaanalysis by P. Cohen (1987, Review of Educational Research, 51, 281-309) and by K. Feldman (1989, Research in Higher Education, 30, 583 -645). In Cohen's metaanalysis, student ratings of a teacher's clarity had an average correlation of .50 with subject matter achievement; in Feldman's analysis of these studies, student ratings of a teacher's clarity correlated .56 with achievement and ratings of the teacher's organization had an average correlation of .57.
